A tip for using Family Bibles

Next time you take a look at any old family bibles you have, leaf through them, one page at a time. Even though the average bible has 1300 pages, it can be WORTH IT.

My aunt just brought over the old family bible for me to photograph and look at. I decided to leaf through it, page by page, and found multiple important genealogical items! Besides the leaves and two 4-leaf clovers I found, I also found my grt grt grandmother's confirmation booklet and her elder brother's obituary from Stockholm, Sweden.

Using the confirmation booklet and obituary, I was able to historically locate her brother's family, and through that and a Stockholm, Sweden genealogical database, I was able to confirm her (my grt grt grandmother)'s previously unknown birthplace.

So, moral of the small story is, leaf through your old Family Bibles page by page. With your average Family Bible having over 100-200 years of people looking at it (and sticking stuff in it), you never know what interesting things you might find!
