Family searches with snippets - worth it? or easier to find a unicorn...?

Family searches with snippets - worth it? or easier to find a unicorn...?

Hello all.
I have been doing some basic searches,no real reason just became curious. 2 years ago I found out via here my father had passed away in 2004.

However my curiosity has been reignited.
I literally have snippets - and no one at all to ask.
I know my father is now dead I had not seen him since I was 10 ( I'm 32)
I know he had a sister I know she had at least 2 children
I recall him saying he left home at 14.

I cannot find my mother's details - again I have not seen here since I was around 10
on my birth certificate it names her but there is no record - any thoughts on this?
I don't even know her DOB. I think around 1959
I know she was adopted so I am figuring the name on my birth certificate is not what she was named at birth?
I know she tracked down her birth mother who sadly rejected her.
She says her birth mother had 2 other kids - I am guessing it was a out of wedlcok thing and I know my mother was raised by nuns but I don't know where.

and that's it...
is this worth persuing - I am just curious I don't wanted a happy clappy family tea party

I think that it will be quite difficult to trace your mother's birth family if she was adopted, as the records are likely only to be available to her and her mother.

Have you thought about trying to trace her, or some of her adoptive family if any are still alive?

If your parents were married have you thought about tracking down their marriage certificate?

To trace your father's family you need his birth certificate. That will give you his parents names, and then you can search for siblings by inputting his father's last name and his mother's maiden name.

If you want contact with any living relatives you might want to think about searching social media - Facebook etc.

Thank you
No I don't wish for any contact from my mother, after a lot of long hard thought over a number of years there are no benefits to me.

She was not adopted by a family as far as I can tell but raised within a nunnery orphange she never spoke of an adoptive mother/father figure.
just nuns.

they were not married ( although they married other people when I was 1!! I suspect as a marriage of convienience for cash! that was a turn up for the books!)

yes I think I may explore my father's birth certificate.
I have his death certificate and then I decided to have a think about how I felt as it did come as a shock and brought up a great deal.

thanks for your time :)
