Request for Research Help

Surnames: Mattalo, Mottola, Mattola
I am looking for a person with expertise to do some (paid) research to uncover my family history in advance of a trip to Italy I am taking in September. I have been seeking my lineage for almost 20 years and have come up empty - but am determined to find my family history. Here are details:

- My paternal grandfather, Peter Mattalo, was an orphan from Italy and came to Canada in the early 1900's (I believe it was 1917)
- I have found the ship record of his arrival in North America, but he traveled under the name Pietro Marino . . . so we do not know where the name Mattalo comes from at all
- As best I know, he was born in Calabria . . . possibly Dipignano
- Rumor has it that his birth father was a Doctor and he had an affair, giving birth to my grandfather
- we do not have access to any of his birth records or adoption records at all . . . all reference beyond his arrival in Canada is to his name as Peter Mattalo

This is a mystery I would like to solve and am trying to do what I can before I travel to Italy in September. If I can get a firm trail or lead on our family history, I will plan on spending up to a week in Calabria to try to get the facts about my family history.

I know there are people that have expertise in doing research well beyond what I have the experience or time to do . . . so I would like to know if there is anyone out there that would like to take this on.

Please message me to arrange a telephone call.

Thanks all,

Michael Mattalo

Michael, please visit the website Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).
https://www.apgen.org
Look at their directory and choose to search by specialty. Under ItalianAmerican there are at least 5 pros that you can read their bio. Some are located in southern Italy but they probably have contacts in other areas. Pro Genealogists are great at sharing recommendations! Good luck and I hope you post again after your trip.
