I was wondering if anyone could recommend any home study or online genealogy courses? I would really like to start taking some courses and was wondering which ones members have found to be helpful or where they have learned the most. Thanks!

A couple of suggestions: Check your local library, genealogy or historical society, they sometimes have beginning courses. Also joining a local society gives you access not only to membership meetings which in some cases have lecturers come in with great information but their databases as well. They give members printed journals which showcase local and non-local cases that members have worked on.
The other suggestion is check online with the National Genealogical Society, they have a home study course. The Accredited Genealogist website includes online guides that are very helpful even if you are not interested in becoming accredited it is all good towards learning solid methods to good genealogical work.
Look for recommendations for Genealogical books that offer information that is interesting to you. Ex.: Guidebooks to old handwriting, cemeteries, probate and court records for regional areas. Study the Elizabeth Shown Mills Evidence Explained for writing citations.
Some good books to look into are: the BCG Genealogical Standards Manual (this will be instrumental in performing quality research procedures that will help with your skills. Professional Genealogy (the book) is used by many who are considering going pro. I think it is great for developing good research and writing skills even if your not going to go pro.
Good luck!
