Thom Family Bible with entries back to Scotland & Ireland was disposed of by a non family member in 1970 in the Boise,Idaho area at a yard or garage or estate sale. The information it contains is priceless for members of the Thom Family. Would appreciate any assistance in locating missing Bible. Arthur J Thom (702) 645-3201

I would be interested in more information on the Bible, even though our Thom family immigrated from Germany.
We know some grandchildren of Johann Thom, the immigrant, left WI for SD and MT. Thanks.
Will welcome any queries on the other surnames.

The Thom family Bible was brought to this country in or after 1773 by Joseph Thom who settled in Pennsylvania after the war of independence. He died in the 1800's in Indiana but left 10 children to carry on the Thom Family name. My direct descendent William Wilson Thom, his son left a son, Dr William Wilson Thom who died in Illinois and his son Josiah Thom fought in the Civil War and then moved to Idaho in the 1860-70's. My grandfather Jesse Custer Thom, father Marion Arthur Thom and I were all born in Idaho.
My family moved with the Pilgrims to Holland prior to the move to the colonies in 1620.
Thom means twin in gaelic. I am sure there is a connection with our family lines if we were able to trace back that far.

Arthur J. Thom...
It sounds like you're related to me. Joseph married Elizabeth Craig...were supposed to have brought over to the states with them..one Robert Cathcart who lived with them and then married their daughter Jane Thom when they both grew up. I can get back no further on either lines.
Robert Cathcart's parents...
James Cathcart B.1740 and Margaret Clark
Jane Thom's parents...
Joseph Thom B. 1743 and Elizabeth Craig.

So what do you think...are we related??? Do you have any more information back into Ireland then Scotland??

I was curious to see if you had found the bible? My husband is Howard Thoms grandson. Howard is the grandson of Jesse Thom. We live in Oregon and got a lead that it may be here.
