I found a listing for my great gf in directory with address and occupation. Is there anything I can search with this info? Can't find him on any areas.

Hi Donna

It might help if you told us which directory you found him. Also what information you are trying to find about him

Thanks

It's from us city directories 1899. He's listed as plumber at 888 s 4th brooklyn ny. I've hit a wall trying to find out any other info. I have my ggf (his son) death cert. it states unknown for mothers name and on the back of it his other son wrote "cannot ascertain mother's name." Any suggestions to move forward would be wonderful. Thank you

Hi Donna

I am not well up on researching in the US, but as a suggestion I would post on the PEACH surname board and ask for any information on your ggf's ancestry. You may get more joy on there than on here which is mostly used for lookups and questions about directories.

Since you know his father's name and his rough date of birth, then you could try to get your ggf's birth certificate .

Another route might be to have a look on the familysearch site to see if there is a baptism for him. Also - have you managed to track your ggf on any census? Ancestry have them as does Familysearch.

At the bottom of this page is a search box, in which you can search for a surname or place, that should take you to the correct message board.
What was your ggfather's name, and when was he born? I see 2 William Peach's in the 1900 census in Brooklyn.

G-g-gf estimated around 1850. My ggf was 1870.

Interesting... I can't seem to find any William Peach associated with "S 4th" in the Brooklyn NY City directory for any year around that time. The only plumber one I found was in the 1899-1900 Brooklyn NY City directory and he was living with John Peach, "dogs" at 93a Sackman. If you check the 1900 census, that John Peach was this particular Wm Peach's father. His mother and his two siblings are at the 93 Sackman address as well. This Wm Peach is 33y and single in 1900.

In earlier Brooklyn NY directories he is at various addresses with his father John the "dog fancier" and William is listed as a "conductor".
