Was he the Philip listed as a son in the will of Philopena Byerly in 1903?

Attached is the estate index summary from Allegheny County Proceedings Index Volume 16 along with the will from Book 80. Note on the index that there were subsequent court filings for her estate, namely the inventory, property sale and the administrator's final account closing out the estate.

These scans come from familysearch.org, which has digitized some of Allegheny County's probate records:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-28782-27930-99...

In the event that a child died after the will, her will directs the administrator to give that child's share to the remaining siblings. If Philip died in the year or two after this will, I'd bet that these documents mention his death date and detail his share going to his siblings. I would guess that the remaining court records shown in that index are either still in Allegheny County's probate court or are available at the State Archives.

Hope this helps,

Scott

Hey...the problem MAY BE that you've got it in your head that he died between 1903-1905 in Pittsburgh.

Philip's father was Wm Byerly of Pittsburgh? Mother was born in Germany?

A Phillip Byerly, born Dec 5, 1853 in Pittsburgh, widower of Martha Donnely, died April 30, 1920 in Detroit, MI:

That him?

You're welcome!

The thing I always recommend to people is to gather all the info, stories, gossip, rumors, etc. you can about ancestors - but don't put too much stock in it. There's always some truth to the stories, but other info gets added/subtracted over the years also. ;-)

Now look back in the 1909 City Directory (if I'm remembering correctly), and Philip does show up there listed as a glass worker.....obviously eventually disappears from PA directories as he moved to MI.

Have a great week,

Kat

Hey Ray -

Oh, I get it with the German naming customs - my ancestors are predominantly German. Drove me batty at first until I figured it (the naming customs) out. Took me awhile to figure out why all the males were named 'Johann'.....lol!

OK, so that was Philip's grandson instead of him? See that they were both glassworkers too.

Glad you were able to find all the siblings now.

Peace,

Kat
