alias William Warner fled Civil War to Oklahoma

My great great grandfather, William Warner, guilty of shirking from a commitment to the Civil War, fled to Oklahoma where he married Eliza and had my great grandmother, Jewel Opal Warner in 1905.

William Warner, however, is an alias and I am not sure how to go about finding his real name. My family has a hunch that his real surname is Adkins or Akins. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on where I should go in an effort to resolve this mystery?

I would be more than appreciative!!!

Sincerely,
Melissa Simpson.

Do you have any idea or even suspicion WHERE William came from? If so, you might simply search for deserters with a given name of William within the state. I am sure it will be time consuming (unless you can find some Internet sources).

You should also post messages to the boards and/or lists for the state, AND to Adkins, Akins and Warner-L. There may have been a relative William continued to contact, even after he left the war. Someone may be looking for him too!

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Rel@ively,
Patrice

I don't have any idea where William came from. However, I have a researcher helping me with records in the Indian Territory they settled in. Hopefully I'll find a clue there. If nothing, atleast I'll learn about the rest of the family there.

Thank you for your input. :)

Sincerely,
Melissa Simpson
