RIP in baptism records

can anyone clarify what this means ~ I had assumed REst in Peace (i.e. child already dead) but no corresponding burials and other baptisms within the parish use the term 'dead', some with RIP also indicate the baptism was private so I wondered if it was added later to infer received in public ~ as only able to work from transcript on CD at present can't see if handwritting is different or even where or how its written.
