Can anyone tell me why a male would take the female's last name instead of the female taking the males? I know in hispanic traditions this is customary, or with the native Americans such as the Cherokee, but why would the English, Irish, or the Scots have the male take on the famale surname? The name 'Crowe" changes from Voell, to Vowell. to Hooker, TO finally Crow and it is all based on the female
