Surnames in the bible….Fox, Noble, Bell, Queen
I have a very old (1691) Fox family bible. It is hard to read since much was written in pencil and I think poorly spelled, but it does have a wealth of information. The bible was received by my grandmother Minnie Noble from her father Henry Harry FOX. Henry also used the name Samuel. He was born in Bay City, Illinois in April 1874. He married Zerua QUEEN. Henry's brothers and sisters were: Nace, Carl, Nate, Jim, Cuba, Nora and Florida.
Henry's parents were "PEAT" (It really is spelled that way) FOX and N.E. (I only have the initials.)
Other names in the bible are J. Ram FOX-1691, Baugh FOX-1702, Pleasonton FOX-1751, Washington FOX-1790, Read FOX-1829, M or N D. FOX-1851, P.W.(This would be Peat) FOX-1865, H.H. FOX (Henry)-1884, Minnie (my grandmother)NOBLE-1941. The list is the names that the bible was passed down to and the year it was received.
I have various other surnames including QUEEN, BELL, NOBLE, RODDEN,
HANNIES, and AVEY listed in the bible.
The area should have been Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri.
The earliest notation date in this bible is J Ram Fox 5/7/1691. There is a note that the bible was purchased from L V Cooley May 9, 1741.
Death Index records:
Pearl 3/4/1899
N.E. Fox
R.A. Fox nov. 12, 1927
HH Fox Nov. 29, 1941
Birth Index
Zusa (?) Bell
Florida Hannes
HH Fox 4/186?
RA Fox 11/1871
SC Fox 1897
Marriage Index:
Samual & Zerna (?)
Annie Fox m. Thomas Noble Charleston, Mo. 1917
Minnie Fox m. Hamilton Noble Charleston, Mo. 1918
(NOTE: I know that Hamilton Noble is actually John Hampton Noble)
Lillian m. Eugene Hunsuker
Other notations are: Laura bell, Earl Bell, Virginia Rosalie Noble listed on the birth index without dates.
I also have a HH Fox of Bell city, Mo. with a July 13, 1938 date.
Pearl E. Fox with a November 1941 date and Cape Girardau notation.
A Zerma A. Fox is listed as 57 years old in 1930.
Other names Nancy J. Queen, Eliza B. Queen, Bernard Ray Raddon (?), George W. Queen, Susan Claridy, Read Fox.
Illinois is written frequently with misc. dates and unreadable names.
The only thing I am sure of is that Annie Fox and Minnie Fox married brothers with the last name of Noble. I do know the children of Annie and Minnie with birth dates starting in 1915. The children of Annie and Minnie grew up in Chaffee, Mo.

cynole@earthlink.net***UPDATE ON ABOVE BIBLE
The background I am positive of is that Samuel Fox, who also went by the name Henry Fox died in Mo. in Nov of 1941. He committed suicide following the filing for a divorce from "Pearl". He had at least 3 daughters named Minnie, Annie and Buella. Information I can read in the bible is:
Birth Index
Laura 1894
Zusa (?) Bell died 1890
Florida Hannes
H H Fox 4/186?
R A Fox 11/1871
S C Fox 1897

N E Fox (Nancy E. Fox w/o Pleasant Fox)
R A Fox Nov. 12, 1927
H H Fox Nov. 29, 1941 (Henry Harry Fox aka Samuel)
There is a notation in the bible that simply says J Ram Fox 5/7/1691. Another notation says Eliza B Queen 1907. I have some other notes on Queen's. They are Nancy Jane and George W. Queen. I have a Zerma (?) A. Fox that is said to be 57 yrs. in 1930.
Marriage Index:
Samuel m. Zerna (?) Bell
S.C. m. Rodden
Minnie m. John Noble 1918
Annie m. Thomas Noble 1917
Radw or Radd (Can't read) 1915
A number of family members have mentioned the name Avery as being associated with this line. Also, that Samuel AKA Henry owned a general store. Places associated with this line are Bertrand, Mo., Cape G., Mo., Chaffee Mo., and Illinois. The last pieces of info that I have is the mention of Susan Claridy with the dates 3/4/1881 and April 1867 and Mary and H. Fox with 1936 by it. I also have a name of Bernard Ray Raddon.
Nathan D. Fox received this bible in 1851. (I have been told that it is Nathan who traces back to John Foxe b. 1516 in England. m. Agnes Randell.)

An update on the J. Ram Fox Bible………
The family bible that we have is old, hard to read and someone (either my grandmother or her father) tried to "Fix" the fading names and wrote over a lot of the bible. I have figured out parts of the bible and other parts I am at a complete loss.
