Has anyone researched the personal records of Clara Hill Carner that are located in the Smyth County VA Historical Society holdings? Currently those records are in storage and not accessible but I understand that Clara Carner may have included information on her Grandparents, Reuben and Anna (King) Paxton/Paxon that may link family members together and clear up some of the speculation about Reuben's parentage and children.

Reuben Paxton was Clara’s grandfather and she was a founding member of the Historical Society of Smyth Co. VA.

Recently, when I visited the library in Fincastle, Botetourt Co. VA, I found correspondence from another family member that also descends from Reuben and that person indicated that Reuben and Anna eventually went to Greenup Co. KY to live with their daughter.

I would like to verify that information and to see if Clara Hill Carner mentioned their other children. Their son Arthur is well documented, but so far I have not found positive proof of the daughters and remaining sons. I am hoping to find someone that has seen those original records of Clara Carner’s to see if she mentions her grandfather’s children by name and if she offered any proof as to Reuben’s parents.

The information that I found in Fincastle indicated that Samuel may have been the father of Reuben however; I am finding more information that would hint at Reuben being the son of Jacob, a Quaker from New Jersey. I do not have the “proof” to either prove or disprove either theory. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Pam
