Does anyone have any information concerning my great-grandmother, Elisabeth Muir, born in the parish of Mochrum, Wigtownshire, Scotland, about 1842, the daughter of James & Elisabeth Muir, who, according to the 1841 and 1851 censuses were born in Ireland?
In 1841, James & Elisabeth were living in Carsduchan in the parish of Mochrum, James being a tailor. The 1851 census makes it clear they were man & wife, aged at that moment 31 and 29 respectively, and living in East Barr also in the parish of Mochrum.
I have been unable to find any record of Elisabeth the younger's birth or christening among the Old Parish Records kept at the Scottish Records Office in Edinburgh, and I suspect that her parents may have been Covenanters (Reformed Presbyterian) - the family perhaps having emigrated to Ulster in the 17th or 18th centures.
Any help appreciated.
