In early 1808 a group of five Methodist missionaries, among them one Mr Toland, sailed from Liverpool for the West Indies. They were all equipped by Reverend William Myles for their journey.
Why was Liverpool used as port of departure for the missionaries? Did they have any connection with the Liverpool area or did this depend on the 64th Methodist Conference -held in Liverpool in June 1807 - and that they were appointed by the Conference?
- How to proceed looking for information about the background of Mr Toland, the missionary?
Any help is appreciated.
