Hi there,
I'm searching for information on Johann Neufeldt (father to Peter and Isaac & several others) who emigrated through Prussia and Russia before coming to the US (Mt Lake, MN). I have heard that they are well documented in Mennonite history, but what I am really trying to figure out is WHERE they are originally from. My grandpa says we are dutch, but I find no record of any Neufeldt (or Neufeld alternate spelling) anywhere in the Netherlands. Can anyone help??

stefanie Neufeldt hughes

I am answering my own questions--I did a very brief research into the massive immigration of Russians with German (like Janke) names into Kansas and S Dakota during the 1880's.

They were part of the Mennonite colonists in southern Russia. Many of them immigrated all at once to the US.

This is very very intriguing! Look at the Mennonite Genealogical websites--you may find some ancestors there!

Alexandropol, Alexanderpol, Memrik near Ignatyevo Colony Ukraine

Hello

I'm looking for information the Mennonite village of Alexandropol (also spelled Alexanderpol) founded in 1888 near the village of Ignatyevka of the Ignatyevo colony. It is said to be aligned with the Memrik colony church. My great grandfather Jacob Isaac (1861-1912) was a deacon in the church there and our family as among the founding families of the village. However very little information is to be found.

I have all the relevant resources like the Mennonite Encyclopedia, Mennonite Atlas, Unruh, Smith, P.M Friesen texts etc. and have searched in several archives. To no avail.

I'm also looking for a map of this village showing the names of settlers.

Does this ring a bell with anyone. Any references to this village in your family history?

Thank you

Ron

My grandfather George Enns was born in Siberia to Mennonite parents Gerhardt Enns and Agnes Flaming. The family escaped Russia during the Bolshevik revolution. At great risk to their lives they carried an old German Bible from 1700's and an Enns family history book going back to 1600's. My grandfather loaned the history book to an Enns family member in Reedley, California and it was never returned to
him. We are searching for this lost family treasure. He tried in vane to find it before he died to pass it on to his first son as was the family tradition. If anyone finds it please contact Ed Enns, the rightful heir at eenns34825@aol.com or his daughter Terry MacDevitt at brimac5@charter.net.

Mennonite beard style

Can anyone tell me whether the "beard and no mustache" style was typical for Mennonites in the 18th and first half of the 19th century, or whether there might be other religious communities preferring such a style, too?

Thanks a lot
Sabine
sabine@ggrs.com

Swiss Mennonites - Haas

I have documentation that my gg grandfather, Jacob Haas (b.1802), was a Mennonite of Swiss descent. He came from Buck's Co, PA and moved north to Ontario (ca. 1827) settling in a Mennonite community. Any help with how to find confirmation of his birthdate, who his parents were, when they immigrated from Switzerland...would be greatly appreciated.

Is Pettypool a Germanic name?

I recently came across this finding below. What do you think?
"The Pettypool names comes from Germany. During the reformation period the
Pettypool's were part of the Anabaptist movement in Germany.
When the Anabaptist announced that no Ruler was divenely inspired, the Czar of
Germany expelled them from the country. They migrated to
Northern France and contracted their name to P'Pool to have the french appearance.
Later in the mid 1700's they moved to Wales and three
brothers sailed to the US and landed in Halifax Co, VA in 1794. This research was
conducted by Dr Bruce P'Pool (deceased) from Nashville,
TN from 1930's to 1954 when he published the P'Pool history. No longer in print.

Submitter: Lanny E. P'Pool"

I'm trying to identify a photo from a family album. We think it could be Dycks, Wiebes or Hildebrands. Please take a look at http://www.geocities.com/jenn1327 Thanks Jenn Penner
