Rev. John Nicholas or Johann Nicolaus) Mensch (1780/81-1854) likely married to Mariah Smith (1790-1863) was a Lutheran minister of the Springfield Church from 1803 to 1823 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
He was supervised by Rev. Johann Jaeger previously ordainer 2 or 3 years ealier. He was granted a full candidate's license at the request of the congregations at Keller's, Tinicum, Nockamixon and Springfield. In 1806, he had some trouble "on account of his conduct" and was subsequently supervised at his congregation. And since the congregaiton forgave him, the Ministerium also forgave him. In 1807 all was in order again to the satisfaction of both parties. He aploigzed publicly and was forgiven by his congregation. This was then behind him. After that, he was recommended for ordination in 1811 and subsequently ordained on May 27, 1812 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He served five congregations, seemingly successfully, as three congregations came to new buildings during his pastorship.
On account of Ill health he was compelled to give up the ministry and engage in Farming in 1823. I have some info on Rev. Mensch. from various Mensch genealogies. If anyone has more information or anecdotes please contact me.
