Hello all. Here is a link on the Sephardim of Hamburg. You will need fluency in either German or Portuguese. Hopefully, you might be able to use a translator. I first learned of my Ashkenazic roots while researching on my Creek Indian ggrandfather. I was very surprised to learn of the Germanic origins of his family as I thought they were British/Native American. It seems the family originated in Baden, Germany and migrated to Wales and then onto America. I am also of West African, Saponi, Eastern Cherokee and Choctaw heritage and we suspect the "Cherokee-Blackfoot" or Eastern Siouan Blackfoot had Sephardic roots. Many people think that Melungeons are only "White" and don't realize that there are literally millions of Melungeons of Black African descent from the same origins as all Melungeons. In my family, we kept several rituals of Judaism and I never realized their significance until last year. At this point, I know now that our family is converso and I am now in the process of converting formally to Judaism. I hope this info helps someone.

Hannah I know this is personal, but could you share what are some of the rituals, that you frecently found out are Jewish?
I am interested in finding out the little clues...I think our family has lost crypto Jewish roots; I'm probably the only one who really believes this.

I'm also of Sephardic Jewish ancestry from Hamburg...family surnames: Heymann.... Gabay. I will be visiting Hamburg in about a month. If you give me your surnames that you know, I will look for them in the Hamburg cemeteries.

I also found the following site quite interesting:
