ANGEVINE Genealogy: New Rochelle, late 1600s

Anyone have a genealogy dating back to Zachariah Angevine? I have found one for myself that seems to lead all the way back to him landing in New Rochelle in the late 17th century, and would like to be able to confirm it, though I have no idea where to start.

Suggestions re: ANGEVINE

Hi Eric -- I have no info about Zachariah ANGEVINE and I'm not sure what you are trying to confirm about him but I hope the following comments are helpful.
If Zachariah arrived in North America in the late 1700s, it is possible that he or his family settled elsewhere in Europe for a while after leaving France and before departing for New Rochelle. This was a common emigration route for Huguenots, ie. they did not generally go directly from France to North America. Therefore, a search for the ANGEVINE surname in locations such as England, Ireland, the Netherlands or Germany, etc. may turn up some useful info. Many Huguenots fled to these countries.
For example, the very similar surname ANGEVIN is listed in records called the tésmoignages from the Threadneedle St. Church in London, England (this was the main and largest French Protestant church in that city). Look for any name similar to ANGEVINE, not just the exact spelling.
If you want to learn more about the tésmoignages records and what they were, there is a post in the archives of the Huguenots-Walloons-Europe (HWE) mailing list which explains it. It's dated 16 Mar 2000 and has subject line "Livre des Tésmoignages:Threadneedle St. Church, London". You can find that post at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/HUGUENOTS-WALLOONS-EUR...
Also, you might try a search of the IGI on the LDS site at http://www.familysearch.org for the ANGEVINE and ANGEVIN names in the many French Protestant churches in London. You can do that by using batch numbers, as described in another post in the HWE mailing list archives. That one is dated 10 May 2002 and has subject line: "Batch Numbers: French churches, London, ENG". You can find it at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/HUGUENOTS-WALLOONS-EUR...
Lastly, since your post mentions a North American location, it might be a good idea to also post your query on the Board which is for U.S. Huguenots. You can find it by typing in the word Huguenots in the Search feature on the Board site where it says Find a Message Board.
Hope these comments have been helpful. Good luck! Andrea (HWE Message Board admin)

Ms. Vogel, thank you so much for your response. The Church of Latter Day Saints site had very specific dates for my ancestor's birth in France and his marriage in the U.S. This really helps me narrow down when he probably came to America. I am primarily interested in pursuing my interest in genealogy and my interest in history at the same time. It helps me to imagine my own ancestor experiencing this unknown country so long before the American Revolution. Thanks again.

Eric.

Eric,

Have you visited the Angevine geneology forum? http://genforum.genealogy.com/angevine/ You might find some interested info there, and for sure, some relatives. *s* You and I have an ancestor in common. I'm related to Zachariah also. There are several books with references to him.

Clyde Angevine of NY has put together a volume and is preparing updates. You'll want to contact him, for certain.

Good luck to you.

Sonya

Thanks for ANGEVINE Info

Thank you so much for letting me know, I haven't been there yet! I have never independently confirmed my genealogy, but every source I can find concurs on the lineage, so I'm taking it for fact.

I was born in CO, grew up in Kansas, and now live in Virginia - it's amazing when you look at our ancestors and see that most of them lived in the same town their entire lives....

Thanks Again,

Eric.
