My family were carpenters by trade, cabinet makers, living in the Spitalfields/ Hackney area. I'm trying to find the correct spelling of the surname. Even tried Salt Lake City!

Hello Leigh -- it would be helpful and increase your chances of someone being able to help you if you provided a bit more detail in your inquiry.
For example, what time period are you interested in? Who is your earliest known ancestor? What has led you to believe that LE MONIEUX & LE MONIERE are variants of the same name? And, finally, what did you try searching for at Salt Lake that was unsuccessful?
You're certainly in the right area of London -- there were a lot of Huguenots in Spitalfields.
Have you tried the IGI? The records of French Churches in England (baptisms, marriages) which have been published by the Huguenot Soc. of London are on there.
You may also find some ideas to help you on the website of the Huguenots-Walloons-Europe mailing list. It's at: http://www.island.net/~andreav/index.html
Good luck! Andrea (admin for HWE Message Board & mailing list)
