For LDS listings, check the message which identifies the type of listing and always look at the source information at the bottom of the page, follow the links and see where they go. Extracted listings are generally transcribed from films of original documents [DESUE 1708]. Contributed listings can vary somewhat depending on the quality of the research. I was looking for Avalon; have you been able to locate it?
If you’ve gone through the Quarto, then you’ve already eaten the cake. What other documentation might there be? I don’t know the answer to that. However, when you can identify a date and specific location for your earliest ancestor, you should verify that you are informed on all potentially relevant source documents, regardless of which general references you have seen previously. It is obvious in many databases that there are examples of source references that are not included. How this applies to the specifics of your investigation remains to be determined – at least from my point of view. But if you have things under control, then everything is copesetic.
It may also be useful to go through the LDS library catalog and see which specific references might be in their collection.
Regards,
KA
