As it appears you have just started this phase of your investigation, I trust you will be interested to learn that there are a couple citations for Hugh
HARTLEY in the LDS listings.
http://www.familysearch.orgFirstly, a confirmation of his marriage on 03 MAY 1814 in
Bakewell,
Derby,
England, with his spouse listed as Elizabeth PROLEAN. The information is take from the Bishop’s transcripts for
Bakewell,
Buxton,
Sheldon, Taddington, Monyash 1614-1883, by the Church of
England,
Parrish Church of
Bakewell,
Derbyshire, apparently with a slight difficulty regarding her name.
Secondly, a christening for Hugh
HARTLEY on 15 SEP 1782 in Pontefract,
Yorkshire,
England, with parents Bernard
HARTLEY and Mary. The source in this case is the Bishop’s transcripts 1598-1878, by the Church of
England, St Gile’s Church of Pontefract,
Yorkshire.
Given the presumable
HARTLEY origins and the return to Pontefract, one must assume, hopefully, that the reason that the marriage occurred in
Derbyshire is that this is the locality of the bride’s origin. A listing for the birth/christening of Elizabeth
PRIOLEAU was not apparent, for any of several possible reasons, but that does not mean that it does not exist. To further investigate this possibility you could access the
Derbyshire transcripts either directly or though the LDS film.
The question of
Huguenot ancestry can be supported somewhat by the existence of the name
PRIOLEAU early on in the history of the
Huguenot colony in
Charleston,
South Carolina, USA.
http://www.ricehope.com/history/CarolinaHuguenots.htmThis suggests a certain speculative possibility of a common ancestral origin for these two lines that may bear up to further investigation.
