As you can see, he's a tricky one. My doubt over the marriage partly arises from looking into one of the witnesses, a William Boynett who I hoped might be his father. But the only William I found of the right age was christened at St Dunstan's and had children christened there - but still no Jacob. In Pallot's I found a younger William Boynett and a Sarah Boynett both getting married at Hackney Church in the early 1800s. But their ages didn't match the William Snr's children, particularly Sarah - so there appear to be two families. The other thing is that Hackney Church was then a posh and trendy place to get married and Jacob and Ann Allen are listed as being "of this parish". My Jacob and Ann not only never mention Hackney in the censuses but have their kids christened at the notoriously poor St Matthew Bethnal Green. They also live cheek-by-jowl, so they seem to not match the richer circumstances of the Boynetts who married at Hackney. I'll continue with my inch-by-inch searches of all the parish records. Am also awaiting death certs. Thanks for your interest.
