The Vancouver Sun article "The B.C. Pen's Graveyard Secrets" posted below mentions "at least five" Doukhobor inmates having been buried at the BC Penitentiary Cemetery in New Westminster, BC. However, it lists only four identified Doukhobor burials: Jim Tarasoff; George Salikin; Bill Efanoff; and Nick Maloff.
Note that another comprehensive website containing information about this cemetery is "Boot Hill: Stories from the British Columbia Penitentiary Cemetery" by Deborah McIntosh. This website contains a detailed history of the pentitentiary cemetery and lists a fifth identified Doukhobor burial: Nick Sapriken. To visit this website, see the Doukhobor Cemetery Index or click the following link: http://www.boothill.ca/index.html.
Were there other, additional Doukhobor inmates buried at BC Penitentiary Cemetery? It is entirely possible that their burials are unmarked and unrecorded. If there are any Doukhobor researchers aware of additional burials or information, please post a reply to this message and/or email me directly at: jon.kalmakoff@accesscomm.ca.
