Blaine Lake, SK history book has alot of information on these names, as well as Kalmakoff..are you related? The Sherstobitoff name is also connected to relatives who spell it Sherstobetoff.

I am looking for information on my genetic grandfather's side.... His name was Walter Hancheroff and he lived in
or near Kamsack, Sask but also in British Columbia near Nelson (I believe). His sister, Doris and his brother
George. Is there information on previous Hancheroff generations and relatives in Canada and if it can be traced
back to which city, town, village in Russia ?

Hi Pete....Its your sister. Remember that Dad's father's last name is Kootnikoff... I don't remember his first name, but it may be that Dad was named after him.

My grandmother was Pauline Sherstobitoff, she had two brothers (George and maybe Alex) that I knew of and at least one older sibling (sister I think) whom she went to live with when she was very young. Her father died from falling off a horse which is why she was taken in by her sibling. Her mother may have remarried. Her brother George changed his name to Shelby and lived around Vancouver. His son Mike Shelby was a photographer in Toronto - he is deceased and survived by his wife and two daughters. She married my grandfather, Mike Fedosoff and lived in Canora Sask until 1937 when they moved to Toronto. My father, John Fedosoff was born in 1932 and his brother, Larry about 15 years later. Both are still alive and living in Ontario. My grandmother was raised with a cousin who was close to her age, and is still alive in BC. She has two daughters. I can help you with more if you are interested, send me an email. I have a lot of information on the Fedosoff side, but not so much on the Sherstobitoff side. My father can probably help you though.

Small world! The mother of George, Alex and Pauline Sherstobitoff was Masha (Maria). Masha was born 1864 and died June 23, 1947 at Grandview Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia. She was the daughter of Vasily Shtuchnov (Stushnoff).

Masha came to Canada with her first husband, Ivan Sherstobitov in 1911. On June 30, 1911 they departed from the port of Hamburg, Germany aboard the SS Barcelona. After 13 days at sea, the vessel arrived at the port of Quebec on July 12, 1911. The family settled in the Buchanan, Saskatchewan area. The family is listed on board as follows:

Sherstobitov

Ivan 30
Maria 30
Fedosia 15
Alexei 14
Feodor 9
Grigory 4

In the 1920's Masha remarried Sam A. Kalmakoff (1867) of the Devil's Lake district, Saskatchewan. Sam was the brother of my great-great-grandfather Alex. My understanding, from surviving family accounts, is that this second marraige caused some discord among the children.

Hope this information helps!
