I believe I'm descended from this Cole line (via Rev. John Stuart Cole born Aug. 1, 1796 in Newberry, SC), but I don't have an Elizabeth Smith married to any of my John Coles.

This tree http://www.ancestrees.com/pedigree/7043.htm which includes a potentially quite useful transcription of a will of John "Cole" (the transcriber gives a confusing description of whether the family name is Cole or Cote - and it's also confusing to me that the will was "proved" eaight years before Bush River Church records Rev. John Cole's death)

Anyway, on this page he gives the source for the marriage to Elizabeth Smith as "Mason, Barry, "Email dated 2003" (as forwarded by Amanda Cole at ammay {at} awesomenet.net )."
