I would like to know that when you get a baptism record from the site - is this the only information that is available or can you get more information if you contact the parishes themselves?

If you will provide some details -- at least an idea of dates and where in the world the baptisms occurred -- someone might be able to point you in the right direction.

If by a "record" you mean an image of the original parish register (as opposed to a transcription) then that is that.

Since 1978, when the General Synod of the Church of England passed the Parochial Registers and Records Measure, CofE parishes are required to deposit registers over 100 years old with the relevant Diosecan record office (in most cases the county record office) unless they are able to meet very stringent conditions regarding preservation and access.

Ancestry has commercial arrangements with a number of county record offices allowing them to digitise the registers in their care. The parishes no longer have them.

Hope this helps

Hi Christine,

Check Ancestry's record collection, London England Births & Baptisms 1813 - 1906 and you'll see a copy of the actual register.
Just in case you don't have full subscription the details are:
Baptised 5 Sept 1819 St Botolph without Bishopgate Sarah Jane dau of David & Jane Hall of Long Alley, father's occupation shown as Mariner.
Hope this helps
Linda
