Is it common to have a delayed baptism? I am having difficulty finding any records for a family line. The only record close is a baptismal record a year later, almost to the day. It matches up with all other records, except the birth. (birth 1823, baptism 1824)

Time between birth and baptism can run to many years,i have a couple who were 18 years old.

There was no fixed age at which baptism took place. It happened if and when it was convenient for the parents. A gap of a year or so was by no means uncommon. You say that records give the birth as 1823 - are these census records? Companies such as Ancestry calculate year of birth by deducting the age given on the census from the year the census was taken. Because the census (from 1851) was taken on or around the first Sunday in April, this method is accurate only in around 25% of cases (i.e. for those born in the first few months of the year).

Thanks! No I was using other forms of info. I know they immigrated to the USA and eventually settled in MI. I have an obituary, death record, and the burial stone and burial record that all have the same date. I know this could have been incorrect, but that is what I am going on.
