Surnames: Doody
I'm not necessarily interested in certification at this time but figure someone here might be familiar with this resource.
I know that Coloma was the site of Sutter's Mill (Gold Rush) and I'm trying to figure out what the abbreviations mean.

Doody (Patrick), 1847, Co. I, N.Y. Vol. (v. 499); at Coloma '49 with his wife.

Extracted from History of California, 7 volumes, originally published 1884-90, Hubert Howe Bancroft.

Thank you in advance :)

Military- Company I: New York (State) Volunteers. Could be from the War of 1812. Check the New York state records. You may be able to find it on here. Good luck, Don

I think it might be the Mexican-American War, 1847 is the right time frame and I've already found a few clues . I've never looked up military records before and I've learned a lot just this afternoon. He was born in 1818 so it wouldn't be the War of 1812 but I really appreciate you help.
