Hi,thankyou for your reply. We found this photo when we were clearing out my late mother-in-laws house after she died. There was no information on it at all,so we presumed one of the boys was my husbands grandfather, though he was born in about 1875in Bridgnorth, which isn't far fromWales. However we think he arrived in Hull some time later as he married in Hull in 1899. H e was a bosun on the trawlers.
This now deepens the mystery!Do you know when the photo was taken?
Regards Alannis

Hi there,

I'm a qualified genealogist with 43 years experience - my speciality is dating and placing old photographs.

Pennyore House was a charitable institution set up in 1893 in Swansea for the destitute and infirmed children. "Pen Aury Calon Wir" was the institution's famous motto. The aim was to educate these orphans and ensure they get a good upbringing, far from the childhood they would've have living with their parents. Unfortunately, the house is no longer in existence since it was demolished to make way for a new council estate in 1974.

George William Holden was a famous photographer who was born in 1877 in Wandsworth in South London. His father was a shoemaker and an aspiring actor. George trained as a photographer from the age of 13, and later moved to Swansea and started his career as a commercial photographer. He ran his own business, and later moved up north to Newcastle in the 1920s. It is no surprise he is listed as the photographer - many institutions and schools hired him.

Kind regards,
Craig

Craig/Justin,
(see this thread for explanation of Craig`s other profile - http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.britisles.england.ln...)

You couldn`t make this up! Oh look you have!

George W Holden was not George William but George Watkins Holden b.1846 (not 1877)
In addition to the link posted by cjeffrey198 a little over year ago, this blog is very informative.
http://photo-sleuth.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/sepia-saturday-97...

He did not move to Newcastle but...
"...continued to operate his photographic business out of the family home at 55 Tudor Street, Cardiff from 1907 until his death in 1921, aged 75"

Pennoyre House was not demolished in 1974.
Further history of the house here http://www.coflein.gov.uk/pdf/CPG329/
It was converted into apartments in 2005.

Really Craig/Justin, you`re about as qualified a genealogist, as I am as a Brain Surgeon! lol

Oh dear, Craig, Justin or Stevie, whichever of your multiple personalities you now like to be known by!!!!

It doesn't matter what name you use we will still find and 'out' you as the nasty, lying person you are. Purposely providing false and fabricated information to innocent members looking for real help. You purport to be a 'professional genealogist' but seem unable to locate even the most basic of information. You also seem to be related to everyone you reply to. You must have a hell of a lot of ancestors, even though you have very few on any of your trees!!!

Please just stop this and find yourself something more useful to do!

Sue, Jessica,

Bully for you! Have to admit, much as I despise this candidate for the men in white coats - it is proving to have a slightly amusing side? Never though being a member of Ancestry would result in me trailing the intelligent in support of their views on such a moron. Am beginning to feel someone has shouted for a posse to be formed - well "Stevie922", "cellis9", "kicklenickle6776", Craig, Justin, or even professional genealogists seem to be so knowledgeable they should know the posse almost always gets its man! To be continued?

If I understand the various comments about Stevie922 aka cellis9 aka kicklenickle6776, which have appeared on several message threads, he, or she, seems to be a serial spoofer who posts bogus information requests or bogus replies to genuine information requests.

Well if so then he appears to still be at it, but on his latest effort it was Stevo who got spoofed, and he was also dealt with by Arnold Schwarzenegger. :):)

The answer to your question is "Yes". Put kicklenickle6776 in the search bar. Click on any of the search results and you will find they have been put in by gw072 - apparently he is no longer a "professional genealogist" with years of experience, has not worked for the HA or LMA and is not working for/a member of, the Society of Genealogists - he is what he appears to be - a beginner. Well now!
