How to handle out of wedlock lineage

How to handle out of wedlock lineage

My great-grandfather was born out of wedlock. His mother never married his bio father. He was sent off to live with relatives. On the 1921 Canada Census his father is listed as Alexander, and Fanny as his sister. Alexander was actually the grandfather and Fanny was his mother.

How are you supposed to handle this in ancestry? I can't seem to get things to match up to the records. I can't seem to make it understand that Alex isn't his father.

Any help would be appreciated

You will have to manually correct the relationship links. You may need to break all the links first and then reform them connecting Fanny to him as his mother and Alexander to her as her father.

When you have a case where the census would lead to erroneous linkages, connect the census to each person separately. Do NOT click on the boxes on the review page to connect anyone automatically. You will have to revisit the census for each person.
