My father and his brothers clearly remember their grandfather, Frank Meixner, telling them stories about the orphanage he and his three brothers were sent to after their father died in 1886. I know these boys played sports and went to high school in Durand, WI (est. 1895) where he met his wife Clara Brunner, but Frank Meixner played (semi-pro?) baseball in Minnesota in early 1900. By Sept. 1900, Frank and his brothers left WI and MN and moved west.
I think the orphanage is in Pepin county, but no one on the Durand/Pepin County rootsweb board has heard of an orphanage aroudn there. HELP!
