My mother (Irene Currie) was in the St. Francis Orphanage in Woonsocket in 1916-1921. Her half-brother (Frankie Ropp) was placed there in about 1925.It was a Catholic orphanage run and staffed by French-speaking nuns from Quebec, who had little patience for English-speaking children.
If you have any information or can recommend resources about the orphanage, customs, treatment, or child welfare during that era, I would love to learn more.
