St.Aloysius Home was in Smithfield RI. I worked there from about 1968 to 1971. I worked as a counselor for the girls. There were about 10 girls and 1 teen when I was there. There were more boys on the other side. The kids went to the school next door. Summers we went boys and girls on school bus to a lake. Had to have a partner and during the time the life guard which was on of the male counselors would blow the whistle and you had to partner up. Never lost a kid thank heavens. Also went to the Bronx zoo and one time we went to Maine I think. Somewhere on a river, not sure if we stayed overnight. Did almost lose a kid one of my girls who was right next to me. She took a step and was over her head. in flailing around I think she knocked out one of her sisters teeth. I don't remember if I got her out or someone else or she got her footing back. Most of the kids at the time I worked there were wards of the state, only 1 boy I believe was an orphan. Many had siblings that lived there. They were pretty good kids for being away from their families even though it was not a good situation for them. I really liked my girls. WE had fun. Arlene Taylor Blumenthal
