When I told my parents about the nightmare, they just said it was something I saw on TV or read..... that was until I discovered I had been in an orphanage (about age 8) then I was told not to talk about it. I had that nightmare after that till I was in my late 20's. Did we used be given cod liver oil? I was sick alot. My sister said that the place had rats or mice and the older girls took turns watching over the babies/toddlers because they would climb into the cribs.

I am looking for a woman who would have been there during the 40s. Her name was Clara or Clarabelle. She was at the home in Coldwater with her brother Val. My Grandmother wanted to adopt them, but she got pregnant with my Dad, and the rules then were you couldn't adopt in that situation. She was heart broken. They split them up and sent them to other places. I posted a picture in here somewhere of them. Grandmas gone now, she worked at the home in Coldwater. To her dying day, she wondered what happened to them.

The girl on the swing was same as the clock girl. Its very strange the way some things never leave our memories. Do u remember Sistet Claudia? Camp Holly? Hudsons at xmas? There was a brick wall around the back yard of the home. U are not having nightmares but true memories. I remember the same.

I used to have nightmares... I was in a room with other kids, it was night and some were crying for their mother. I yelled at them to be quiet and told them that there was no such person... then I would flash to a courtyard surrounded by a wall and there was a set of swings where I ran to and played on. If you could send me the photo (<a href="mailto://ronorterry@cox.net">ronorterry@cox.net</a>), I would appreciate it. I wonder if it looks like the one in my nightmare. Another funny thing (perhaps from my subconscious), I made a purse for my oldest daughter once and in the center I embroidered a girl on a swing. How weird is that?<br>Yolanda Terry Spina-Parks

I don't remember much as i was only 2 in 1948. My parents were seperated when I was 6 mos old; at which time I was placed in St Vincenct de Paul Hsp for malnutrition &amp; the whopping cough. My sister is almost 7 years older than I. I keep asking her to write down the stuff she remembers, but, so far no luck. She did say I was sick a lot and she took care of me.

I was in the GAH in 1948 with my sister after my mom had a nervous breakdown. My sister was 9 and I was 7. We or you and my sister may have been in the same group I have quite a few memories about the orphanage. The one that sticks with me the most is when, one day, we were walking to school; I think it was called St. Aubins. It started to rain and the sister wanted a volunteer to return to the orphange for rain coats. I volunteered and got lost the whole day. I finally found the orphanage but was too afraid to go in so I just swung on the swings and shortly everyone came back. I was always getting into trouble but it was just because I didn't think ahead lol.

My Grandmother worked at the state home in Coldwater. She had started adoption proceedings on this brother and sister who lived at the home. But because they were Roman Catholic and she was Methodist it wasn't allowed. Val was adopted and Clarabelle was sent to a different group/orphanage. Became a bit of a handful and ended up in a wayward girls home. My Grandmother talked to the end of her life about this. It upset her soooo much. My sister and I would love to find out what happened to them in Grandmas memory.

My great-grandmother was orphaned at the age of six and in her father's probate file there were payments to the Sisters of Charity for the room and board for her and her other siblings. Does anyone know whether they ran an orphanage, and if so, where was it located? I would like to find it in the 1870 census if possible to see if the children are listed.

Info about Guardian Angel Home

I was in Guardian Angel Home for awhile and I remember being so sad to leave. I was not in very good shape when i got there but I remember telling everyone I was from an island somewhere and I did not want anyone to think my parents would put me in there. I soon got over that, but I remember the Mother Superior was not happy with me. I soon got used to being there and now as I look back I remember the school and the sisters giving us money to buy a piece of candy during recess. St Albertus was just plain beautiful, though I remember the chapel in the home the most and the smell of cooking Oatmeal in the morning. I made a few friends while I was there but can't remember any ones names. I did get a chance to go through the building in the 60's or very late 50's. I hope you all find out what you may want to find out about yourselves. My name was Stephanie Kobe then and I think I was around 11 or so. Good luck!

I am one of the Guardian Angel home girls. I was in C group and had 2 sisters in A group. Do you remember Sister Claudia? I had been in contact with a few others like us. I was there 1955-1961. Yes i remember everything you mention. Would like to share memories. Pls contact me if you would like to. The place was beautiful but lonely. I went to St. Albertus festival in July and the church is purely awesome dear sister of mine. We are 'home girls' and will never forget.

I was at Guardian Angel from 1960 - 1963. My mother was divorced and working. No daycare in those days! I had overnight visits with her when it worked for her schedule. When she remarried I remember the last day at Guardian Angel. One of the nuns gave me a Blessed Virgin medal when she said goodbye. I don't remember any of nun's names. Though I was very young – 2 yrs old - 4 1/2 yrs old – I have many memories. The little plastic angel by my bed side (which I still have!); TV room/couch; laundry room; a playroom; the bathrooms; our beds; eating pea soup and squash in the basement dining room; the "office" where I waited for my mom while a big clock was ticking; church at St. Albertus; gardening outside with one of the nuns. I have a few pictures and am interested in hearing more stories.

Hi I just wanted to tell you that I turned 60 years of age this year. I was born in 1952 and came to G.A.H. when I was 2. My oldest sister, Linda, had polio. Do you remember her? She's about 4 1/2 years older than me. My 4 sisters and myself were written up in the Detroit News years ago because there were 5 of us living there at the same time. I also have many many stories to share. I have another email address that you can use to contact me on the weekends. <a href="mailto://sandymaeo@yahoo.com">sandymaeo@yahoo.com</a>; I look forward to hearing back from you! God Bless! P.S. I have a picture of Sister Claudia that I can send you if you like!

Yes I do recall this incident. I remember believe that the girl who pulled them had a nervous breakdown. She was taken from the orphanage and sent to a facility (I believe it was called "Elouise".) I can ask my older sisters Linda, Donna and Barbie Sue if they remember more about what happened.

Yes my mother remembers them, she told me that she talked to Frances and Margaret all the time. My mother said that Francis name came up in church for a mass being said for her, then she talked to Margaret. She had not been able to get in touch with Francis and didn't know what had happened. My Mother's name is Marian Boyce Kramer and my Aunts, Flora and Julia passed away in 1997 and 1999.
