To update: Carole Prietto, Associate Archivist at the Daughters of Charity of Province St. Louise in Emmitsburg, Maryland emailed me back with the following message:

Unfortunately the Provincial Archives has no records of children at any Daughter orphanage in Detroit. Whatever orphan records have survived are housed either with Wayne County, Michigan or with the State of Michigan in Lansing.
