Hi..I just ran across your request about records for the GPO in New Orleans. My ggrandfather and his brother were raised there about the same time as your relative. I've made a number of inquiries about the records you are looking. The foundation people told me that they only records that are available are from after 1900 which precludes our relatives. The only records they have for that time period are meeting records of various committies and accounting records. I have been to both the Williams Research Center and the New Orleans Museum and found nothing. I found my relatives listed under the GPO, I believe in the 1880 census. I have pictures of the GPO before it was torn down in the 1970s..I believe that was the year. AS you may well know the property haw has very nice homes on it. The only thing that I could identify left is the Church on the far west side of the property. It's now a residence but the back of the house was the playground. I did find maps of the property. Good luck..I had no luck for all of my life and found all this out in the past 4-5 years. I have as much about the GPO as can be found..I think!
