My mother, Marie Ethel McDonald, was born in Chicago in 1911 to Roy (Ray?) and Louise McDonald. When her mother died, she and her sister, Marsette, were adopted by John and Sophia Eldering and raised in Cincinnati. I don't know if they were adopted in Illinois or Ohio or somewhere in between.

What orphanages were in the Chicago area in or around 1915-1920? And how could the records be obtained?
