I believe there was a orphanage in Claymont, Delaware on Greenstreet. From what my father told me before he passed away his mother was a cook there when he was a young child. Hope this helps

Travers children in a Wilmington Orphange 1905-1910

I am trying to discover why my grandmother and her 3 brothers were put into an orphanage. They were the children of Amanda Darling Travers 1877-1967 and John Edward Travers 1870-?
Their names were:
John Edward,b.Feb 1898 De....d. 1938 unknown
Elsie May, b. Jan 11 1900 De... d. Nov 9 1981 PA
Willard J. b. Aug 14 1902 De...d. 1983 De
Elmer b. Nov 6 1904 De...d. May 25 1992 MD

This I know is from the family.
Elmer was adopted between 1905-1910 as an infant to the Robert Dodd family in Sussex County, De region.
Did he have a family that might be looking for his ancestors.

Elsie left the orphanage with her mother between 1910-1915 when her mother remarried to Howard Baylor. She is listed in an orphanage in the 1910 census Wilmington, Ward 9, but her brothers are all gone.

I would appreciate any information regarding this family.
Thank you all in advance.
Sue Prettyman

You may already have all this info since its been awhile since the post, however, Reybold orphanage was at one time part of the Diocese of Wilmington.
Hello,

I do not know the answer to your question. However, I wanted to offer that in the event you have had no success in finding any orphanges in Delaware (I do not know of any that ever existed), it might be fruitful to contact Catholic Charities here in Wilmington as they either have, or currently do, operate group homes, which, if I've not mistaken, substitute for what used to to be orphanages.

Anyway, pardon my ignorance, but I thought this might help. If you need help contacting the local Catholic Charities I would be happy to help.

Good luck,

Jeff
(302) 563.9460

I am looking for a "Ribold Orphanage" (spelling may be wrong) that my father-in-law & his brother were placed in, in 1933-34. He says that it was in Wilmington, Delaware. I have "goggled" Ribold and get nothing. It may be connected with Wilmington Diocises Orphan Home. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ward
