The Sisters of Mercy in Canberra should have some records they can make available to an individual concerned, however if the woman was a state ward, she might be better off going to the NSW comunity services department. There are no records that the public can just look up. The book I'm writing will be the first published account.

Hi, thanks for note. Yes your mum and her sisters were very helpful. I wrote the book after meeting a few of the former St John's Orphanage girls in Albury. I realised their story had never been told, and was now in danger of being lost as they got older. Some of them wanted something in print as other people, even husbands, didn't believe the story could be true! Howard Jones

Hi,
I have tried to read every bit of information on this orphanage.I am blessed to come across your thread. My grandmother and her sister were in the orphanage for many years.Their names are Anne Schreiber and Josephine Ernistine.Maybe from the mid to late 20's as they were born 1916,1919.I dont have clarification if this is my grandmothers real name.(Josephine)She talked with me many times about the days there and I have grown older and she has passed, feel compelled to know as much as I can.
I want to buy your book.Is there any way that I can access records on this subject?
Thankyou so much and the kindest regards to you,
Kirsty.

Kirsty, thanks for info re your grandmother and sister. No official records have been released by the Sisters of Mercy but I am compiling a list of former girls from various sources including notes such as yours on ancestry.com.au . This site doesn't allow me to advertise the book directly. You might be interested in information you can obtain if you google "orphanage survivors". Regards, Howard
