Experience tracing mothers who gave birth in Salvation Army homes in 1930's

Has anyone had experience as to how to find records for unwed mothers who gave birth in salvation army homes? We have a birth certificate for the consequent child (son David Taylor) who was born 1935 October, 313 edge lane, Liverpool, UK. Mother down as Florence May Taylor, no birth date, no address. No father. David was then given to barnardos in London till he was sent to New south Wales, Mowbray Park farm training school at 12. It is assumed he went straight into work from there. My suspicion is that the answer lies with Salvation Army for more specifics on his mother, but have no idea how to find this out, as they usually only help find living relatives. Thanks
Amy.

Have you actually approached the Salvation Army or Dr Barnado's to see if they hold the relevant records?
