Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s
I'm in the process of typing a manuscript on the early history of some Chesterfield, SC families that lived near Juniper Creek and Bear Creek in the 1800's. I've been collecting information for 10 years from land conveyances, deeds, wills, probate, cemetery records and court cases. I would like to donate a copy of this manuscript to the new search room in Chesterfield. If anyone has information on the families listed, please contact me at npbaugh@hotmail.com Maybe someone has some old letters or Bible entries that they would like to share. I would be most appreciative.

Re: Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s
I am trying to find out who my Odom ancestors were. I can go back as far as John Calvin Odom my great-grandfather. He was born March 11, 1862 in the Lamar area of Darlington County in SC. He later moved to Charleston, SC where he died July 23, 1943. He was married to Sarah (Sallie) Mims born June, 1867 in Camden, SC in Kershaw County. They had seven children. I have information on the children. I also have photos of John Calvin and Sarah Odom. Sarah is related to the Claudius Pegues family. Can you help me with any Odom information? Susan

Re: Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s
Susan, I'm sorry I can't be of more help but the only Odoms in my family tree are from Chesterfield county SC. My ggg-grandfather was Edwin Odom who married Tamar ? Edwin was born in 1796 and Tamar was born in 1798. Both are buried at Bay Springs Baptist Church cemetery. One of their daughters, Phoebe Odom married my g-g grandfather, William Goodale. I hope to do more research on the Odom's in the future. The Marlboro county cemetery survey at the South Carolina Dept of History and Archives mentions many Odoms. You might could also call the Bennettsville museum and see if they have any family files on the Odoms. I know they have many family records. Sincerely, Norma

Just read your message and I will check my Odom file to verify William B. I don't know Tamar's maiden name but she and Edwin are buried in Chesterfield.

Re: Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s
I submitted my manuscript to the Chesterfield Historical Society about 4 months ago. When I first began my research 16 years ago, I did not realize how time consuming it would be to write a comprehensive family research paper on all the surnames that I listed in the previous post. I ended up with a list of names and some anecdotal records.
The document that I submitted to the Chesterfield Historical Society has over 600 Polson names listed with their parents names, their date of birth, date of death, spouse name, place of burial, comments and source of information. Of course, not all of these categories are complete. There is a spouse index listed in the back of the document with several hundred names.
I am still researching Chesterfield families and the names that interest me most are Polson, Crowley, Grooms, Ivy, Coker, Goodale, Futrell, and Odom. I hope that the next document I submit will be in narrative form.
If anyone wants to contribute information to this research, please contact me. I will give you credit for any information you share that I use in the document.

Re: Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s
Hi,
Thanks for your response. My great great grandmother was Mary Jane Crowley who married Ainsley Poulson from Chesterfield County, SC. Censuses state that both Mary Jane and Ainsley were born in South Carolina. I'm interested in knowing, in particular, who Mary Jane's parents were or any information about the Crowleys who were living in Chesterfield County in the early 1800s. Do you happen to know if there is any connection to the Crowleys in Chesterfield County in the early 1800s and the Grooms or Ivy families from Sumter County?
I have some information on the Hall family from Chesterfield County in the early 1800s. Silas Hall's will is on microfilm at the So. Carolina Dept of History and Archives and I have two or three plat drawings with the names William Hall and/or Henry Hall (dated c1813)on them.
I hope this is helpful,
Norma
