Rotherham Workhouse

Rotherham Workhouse

In researching my gt gt grandfather (John Powell), my cousin has discovered that he died in June 1916 at Notts County Asylum, Radcliffe on Trent, and his death cert lists his occupation as 'of the workhouse Rotherham, labourer'. Given that he was from Elkesley, Retford, and had a wife and daughters there, this has caused a few questions.
I am thinking that as this was during the 1WW, it is possible that he was working as a labourer there as it became a Military hospital in 1917. Does anyone have any links to pay lists etc for the workhouse, or have any clue as to where I go next?

Hi, unfortunately I have been unable to find this list that you mention. Could you give me an idea of where to find it on the web site you mention? Thanks

Hello there. We were in touch a long time ago and we are related through William Powell and Mary Linegar. I haven't been back to that side of the family for a while now, and must revisit sometime. Thanks for your offer of help anyway.
