I am researching the Massey family who lived in Whiston during the first half of the 19th Century. Richard Massey my 4xgreat grandfather was born in 1815/16. He and his family are listed in the 1841 census as living in Whiston. He married Mary Taylor in 1838. I have his death certificate which states that he died from a mortal injury to the cervical vertbre accidentally received. It is signed by Thomas Badger, Coroner, Rotherham.
I am interested to find out if there were quaries in the Rotherham/Whiston area (I have only found references to collieries) and if there is any mention anywhere of a quary accident in 1849. I have searched various newspaper websites but have found nothing so far. In the 1851 census, his wife Mary is listed as a pauper.
Could anyone help with information or suggest other sources I might try. Many thanks
