My name is William A. Smith and I am in hopes that someone might be able to help me in doing some historical research regarding a church which no longer exists.
The church in question was the Harmony Grove Church, which was located at the corners of West Paces Ferry and Chatham Rd. It had an associated cemetery, which still exists (albeit now on private land), the modern-day address of which is 215 W. Paces Ferry Rd.
Most of the original grave markers are gone, perhaps illegally removed at some point, and the cemetery is fairly heavily grown over. I do not know why the church is no longer there... it was possibly destroyed in the Civil War, or perhaps the members simply outgrew it at some point and moved elsewhere whereupon it was demolished.
This church was my family's church in the mid-1800's, and my great-grandfather Alfred Smith is supposed to be buried there, along with a person who may be his father, James H. Smith.
I am posting this in hopes that someone may have heard of this church or cemetery, and that records or information from Harmony Grove might still exist.
Thanks,
William A. Smith
