So happy to meet you, Cousin Sue!!!
What timing!! Just yesterday I made a note to try and find out who Uncle Hiram Payne married and to find him on the 1860+ census': true!
I had never heard of "Derinda" until 3 weeks ago when the widow of one of our cousins mentioned her as the wife of our g/father Greenberry Payne. Until 3 weeks ago I had not researched my Paynes personally except for my Great-grandfather William Calvin Payne's children and some of his downline. Everything else I have at this point on my Payne's is from the personal records my Great-Grandfather William Calvin Payne & my Grandfather Norman Emory Payne Sr gathered in the 1920's-1930's and the few census and marriage records I have found in the last 3 weeks...

.....where was 3g-grandpa Greenberry in 1870? dead?
It is possible they were wrong about Rhoda or perhaps 3g-Grandpa Greenberry had 2 wives or maybe his wife was Rhoda Derinda or maybe Rhoda Ayres is just plain wrong...?
As I mentioned, there's a lot of census work and record digging I haven't done yet to prove who is who and what is correct and not correct in the research papers I inherited..

Please be patient with me - I have so many irons in the fire I don't know which way is up! I hadn't intended to start my Payne research at this time but as I always say, "The 'grandfathers' will let you know when their time has come to be found".
My grandfather, Norman Emory Payne, was the only one of the Payne's I know of who left Georgia when he moved to Texas in 1920. He was a devout family man and he kept a close relationship with all of his Georgia kinfolk until his death in 1977.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and sharing our common ancestry!
Your cousin Kathye,
Red River County, Texas
My gift to you.......
