Surnames: DUTTON or DUNCAN, COSBY
I am looking for any information on my gmother DUTTON , she was Indian, as was told to me by a reliable source ,while she was working for a white man, named Joseph Leon Cosby, in Tarboro,NC , she became pregnant by him twice and had two boys, one named James Rufus Cosby (my father)born around 1916, and the other named Joseph Leon Cosby Jr.(my uncle), not being able to support them , she decided to put her children in an orphanage, and she was never heard from again. Eventually their father (COSBY) married a woman named Nanny BROWN, and he took them out of the orphanage and raised them until his death, all have passed away, but there is still so many questions that were left unanswered , such as what was my grandmother first name?, what tribe was she from? and so forth. If there is any one out there that can help me, please do.I do know that she was related to WARD's and JONES, because they were my father's cousin's on his mother side.
