Come and learn about the significance of Black Dolls in Afro-American culture and share a few of your own favorite dolls!
Mary Williams Swift grew up in the Florence Estates section of Winslow Township and is a 1965 Graduate of Edgewood High School. Mary married and moved to Little Rock Arkansas, where she became a teacher and both a collector and student of dolls. She is shown in the attached photo from the pages of “Doll News”, with her award winning Kewpie doll. Join us at 8:00 PM, after our regular business meeting, for a showing of Mary’s video of “The Rich and Fascinating History of Black Dolls,” originally presented at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies in February of 2008. Mary is a member of the Central Arkansas Doll Club and frequently gives “trunk shows” featuring her extensive doll collection around the state. A historical display of African-American dolls and figurines owned by Society members and other Winslow residents will also be featured and discussed by their owners. Table space will be made available for visitors to also share their favorite dolls of color with all who attend.
Admission is FREE with light refreshments provided!
