Does anyone know where Dr. Frank DeHass is buried? He lived in Martins Ferry at the end of his life. There is a DeHass St. in MF. I believe the red brick house there may have been his home, called Avondale. Are there pictures or portraits of his home from his time? Can anyone confirm that the house there was his? Any efforts being made to give it historical status?
I grew up on North Zane Hwy, across the alley from that house and have been curious about it all my life.
I read Annie Tanks' article on Rev. DeHass. Given his notability as an author and a diplomat, I am surprised no action has been taken in the community about him, especially considering his book written in the 1800's is still being reprinted and used in colleges today!

Do you have any details about his life in MF or about the house on DeHass St.?
Thanks for the info about his burial site.

Sorry but I don't know much about his life in Martins Ferry or the house there. Where is DeHass Street?

It's up at the north end of town. Taking the exit from Rt. 7 to North Zane Hwy (5th St.), follow Zane Hwy south till it meets 5th St. Take 5th St. to Cemetery Road. Turn left at Cemetery Rd by Rose Cafe. DeHass is the first street on the left past the alley. It curves a bit. The big red brick house (I think) was Dr. DeHass's house. There used to be a trolley line at the end of the street before Rt. 7 highway was built over it and truncated the street.
A biography of Dr. DeHass is available from Annie Tanks' book on Martins Ferry.

Thanks for your help. I was able to find the family vault at Stone Church Cemetery but it was boarded over. My husband was tall enough to see over the top of the board and there was an iron gate behind that. Only the DeHass name was on the outside. I was not able to get to DeHass St. maybe next trip.
