Can anyone enlighten me on John William Thorburn's Masonic membership in Dumfriesshire SW Scotland? I would estimate his membership to be from 1840s onward. He did live in the Johnstone Parish region of Dumdriesshire and was a Bacon Curer as hs profession. He died prior to 1880 the date of his daughter's wedding. His daughter Elizabeth (my Grt Grandmother) was born in 1845 and m.John Fisher Currie in 1880 and they had their family living in Glasgow, Scotland. John F Currie was also a Freemason. Proof of knowing this is that his son John WT joined as a Lewis (prior to the age of 21) which can only be done if his father was a masonic member prior to the son's birth.
