identifying possible masonic lodge image

The photo linked below came up at a recent family reunion. It was found in a bunch of family photos, and my cousins believe it is my great-grandfather, as it is believed he was active in the Masonic Lodge in NC. He lived 1857-1928. People thought that the clothing pictured must have been related to the Masonic Lodge. But this is all just a guess. No other information to identify the man in the picture. No other photos of my great-grandfather are known.

Is anyone familiar with Masonic Lodge clothing, and able to identify anything about the picture? Anything to identify a time period, or anything else?

Thanks.

Hi Ray,
My father was a Mason for 30+ years but I've never seen that costume either. It could be one of their ritualistic costumes they use for initiations but I don't know. If you'll give me permission to take a copy of your photo, I'll try to contact some of his Masonic brothers to see if they have any ideas about it. I can't make any promises but I'd be willing to try for you.
